How to play
Walk with W, A, S and D or the arrow keys, and click the view to look around with the mouse. On a phone there's an arrow pad, and you drag across the view to turn. Put the crosshair on anything that catches your eye and press E, or tap USE. Locks, notes and the keeper's things open in a close-up.
You have 25 minutes and four free hints. The keeper watches on a camera, the way a game master does in a real room, so a hint starts from whatever you looked at last, and the last hint for each puzzle gives the answer. After the four free ones, each hint adds two minutes to your time.
Pause stops the clock if you need a break, and Map shows a floor plan of what you've walked past so far. The answers change every time you start a new game, and your progress saves in this browser, on this device only.
The codes in the room
A signal lamp by the window flashes a five-letter word in Morse code, and a card pinned beside it has the alphabet. Each dot lasts about 0.4 seconds and each dash three times that, so one pass of the word, with its long rest, takes between 15 and 21 seconds. You can hear it too, since the shutter clicks on every flash.
The logbook's last entry is a Caesar shift. The brass cipher wheel on the shelf is still set to the shift the keeper used, A under some other letter, so you can turn it back by hand.
Two endings are possible. Get out with the great light dark and the relief boat turns back. Light it first and the boat stands off the rocks.
Play it on paper
No screen for this one. Five clues for a home or a classroom lead from hiding place to hiding place, starting in Morse code and a Caesar shift like the room above. Press Print this pack and only this set prints, a sheet to a page, with an answer key at the back for whoever runs it.
- Hand out clue 1 to start.
- Hide clue 2 under the doormat, clue 3 on a bookshelf, clue 4 behind a lamp and clue 5 under a pillow.
- The password opens the prize. Swap any hiding place for one that suits your room, and make a matching sheet with the escape room puzzle maker.

Questions
How long does it take?
The clock gives you 25 minutes, and you can keep playing after it runs out. Pause stops it if the phone rings.
Can I play it on a phone?
Yes. There's an arrow pad, you drag across the view to look around, and Full screen fills the screen. It plays best with the phone turned sideways.
Is there a walkthrough?
The keeper's hints are the walkthrough. Each one is more direct than the last, and the last one for a puzzle gives the answer. A walkthrough from someone else wouldn't help much anyway, since the word, the shift, the year and the winds change every game.
Can I play with friends?
Yes, around one screen. One of you walks and the others shout out what they spot and keep the notepad going, the way a team splits up in a real room.
