Four small games played in secret codes. Decode a scroll yourself, or open it in the matching StringMash tool.

How the codes work

Every game hides its clues in a cipher you can find on this site: ROT13, Base64, Morse code and Elder Futhark runes. Work one out by hand if you like. If you get stuck, the Decode it on StringMash link opens the right tool with the message already pasted in and decoded.

The message goes after the # in the link, so it stays in your browser and never reaches our server. The games keep your progress in your browser too. There is no account to make, and clearing your site data starts you again from the beginning.

Runes that share a letter

The Elder Futhark has fewer runes than English has letters, so some letters share one. C, K and Q all use ᚲ, V and W use ᚹ, J and Y use ᛃ, and X and Z use ᛉ. The rune translator picks one letter for each, so you may see K where the game meant C. The games accept either, so type whichever you get.

Questions

Are the games free?

Yes. They run in your browser, with nothing to install and no sign-up.

Do they work on a phone?

Yes. Each game fits a phone screen. Dead Air plays its Morse as sound, so turn the volume up after your first tap.

Where is my progress saved?

In your browser's local storage, on this device only. A private window or clearing site data starts the game over.
