Making a sheet

Choose a word list, or type your own, one per line. Each word's letters are mixed up and printed with a line to write the answer on, and the answer key comes on a second page. Tick A word bank to print every answer at the bottom in a jumbled order, which turns it into a matching game for younger children.

Sheet number decides the mix, so the same number and words always print the same sheet. Press New mix for a fresh shuffle of the same words. Phrases keep their spaces: CANDY CANE is scrambled as two words, so the puzzle stays fair.

Ideas for using it

As a race: hand out the sheets face down at the party table and the first to finish all of them wins. Or in teams, one sheet each, to fill the gap before pudding. For a class, a scramble is a calm last lesson before the holidays, and the words can be that term's spelling list instead of Christmas words.

Pair it with the word search, using the same words, for a two-sheet pack. A scramble that's too hard can be helped along by giving the first letter of each word, or by ticking the word bank.

Questions

Can a scrambled word come out the same as the word?

No. Every word is reshuffled until it's different. The only exception is a word whose letters are all the same, which can't be mixed.

Can I make one with my own words?

Yes, up to 30, one per line. Any topic works.

What if a jumble spells another real word?

Occasionally it will, as with any scramble. The answer key gives the word you meant, and the word bank removes any doubt.

Is it free?

Yes, for home, class or a party, as many copies as you need.
