Making a sheet

Choose a word list, or type your own, one per line. Each word's letters are mixed up and printed with a line for the answer, and the answer key comes on a second page. Tick A word bank to print every answer at the bottom in jumbled order, which turns the sheet into a matching game for younger children.

Sheet number decides the mix, so the same number and words always print the same sheet. Press New mix for a fresh shuffle. Phrases keep their spaces: PUMPKIN PIE is scrambled as two words, so the puzzle stays fair.

Ideas for using it

At the kids' table, a scramble at each place fills the wait before the meal, and the first to finish picks the first slice of pie. For a class, it's a calm activity for the short week before the holiday, and the 1621 list doubles as a history lesson.

Pair it with the word search, using the same words, for a two-sheet pack. If a scramble is too hard, give the first letter of each word, or tick the word bank.

Questions

Can a scrambled word come out the same as the word?

No. Every word is reshuffled until it's different. The only exception is a word whose letters are all the same, which can't be mixed.

Can I make one with my own words?

Yes, up to 30, one per line. Any topic works.

What if a jumble spells another real word?

Occasionally it will, as with any scramble. The answer key gives the word you meant, and the word bank removes any doubt.

Is it free?

Yes, for home, class or the family table, as many copies as you need.
